Job Function/Scope
To provide assistance in both security and logistics related tasks including the screening of personnel and materials using metal detection and x-ray screening equipment to comply with Sellafield Ltd standards and requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities

Adhere to Peterson’s Life Saving Rules and Sellafield’s Nuclear Professionalism Standards and Expectations at all times.

Participate in toolbox talks at the start of each shift (and at other times as required) and ensure that you are fully aware of the risk assessments applicable to the job at hand.

STOP THE JOB whenever you consider an action to be unsafe and report your concerns to a Team Leader without delay.

Use the RAP card system to report unsafe acts or conditions, or to provide praise for good safety practice.

Safely operate security equipment such as x-ray equipment, metal detectors and other detection equipment as directed by Team Leaders.

Using the x-ray equipment provided, diligently inspect items arriving into the S&DC for objects or materials that warrant further investigation. Identify any packages for further screening as indicted by the x-ray equipment.

Immediately advise Team Leaders of any objects of concern (prohibited or otherwise) or of any items that trigger an alarm so that a decision can be made on the next steps to be taken.

Operate the personnel metal detector at the entrance to the S&DC, and perform pat down searches of personnel entering into the secured area (SIA Licence required).

Carry out the following logistics related tasks: manual handling of parcels and boxes, moving pallets using a pallet truck, loading and unloading vans with the assistance of roll containers, securing materials onto pallets using cord strap or pallet wrap as appropriate, and accurately recording data (both via a computer and on paperwork) to support the receipt and dispatch of material.

Operate forklifts in a safe and proficient manner at all times, ensuring strict adherence to the Traffic Management Plan and the requirement to have a Team Leader present on loading / unloading operations (vehicles and racking).

Job Description & Person Specification

Check that all goods are received in an acceptable condition (i.e., no damage to packaging or the material itself) and that the destination address and other relevant information is suitably marked.

Inform Team Leader of any missing items or items found to be in an unfit or damaged condition.

Perform driving duties as and when required, ensuring that you carry out pre-use checks, report any defects, maintain vehicle cleanliness, adhere to security arrangements at all times, and operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with legislation and Sellafield site rules.

Perform Vehicle Marshal duties as and when required.

Maintain a professional demeanour and provide excellent customer service at all times.

Comply with Level 1 of HSE Employee Responsibility and Accountability.

Comply with Peterson Values & Behaviours applicable to your role.

Performance Measure
Performance will be reviewed both formally and informally at regular intervals against objectives set during the appraisal process.

Qualifications and Training
Essential Qualifications / Training (required for successful completion of probationary period):

IOSH Working Safely Certificate.

Manual Handling Training.

Fire Safety Training.

Dangerous Goods Awareness Training.

Vehicle Banksman Training.
Other Essential Qualifications / Training:

SIA Licence.

X-Ray Training.

Clean driving licence.

Training on Emergency Procedures.
SL Specific Training:
You will be required to attend and pass job specific SL courses.
